The BIBLE Framework

Four Dimensions for Understanding Biblical Formation

The BIBLE Framework organizes research around Biblical Insights, Biblical Behavior, Biblical Learning, and Biblical Engagement. Together, these dimensions help us study how people encounter biblical truth and increasingly integrate it into learning, practice, participation, and everyday life.

💡

Biblical Insights

What are people discovering, noticing, questioning, understanding, and reflecting upon as they encounter Scripture and Christian teaching?

🚶

Biblical Behavior

How does biblical understanding begin to influence practices, habits, choices, relationships, ministry activity, and everyday discipleship?

📖

Biblical Learning

How are biblical knowledge, theological understanding, educational progression, and demonstrated learning developing?

🤝

Biblical Engagement

How are people participating, persisting, connecting with community, engaging pathways, and continuing within environments of formation?

An Integrated Framework

The Four Dimensions Are Not Separate Compartments

Christian formation rarely develops in a simple sequence. Insight can stimulate learning. Learning may lead to new practices. Practices can deepen insight. Community engagement may encourage continued learning and help sustain changed behavior.

BIBLE therefore studies both the individual dimensions and the relationships among them.

Framework + Research Journey

Two Views of the Same Formation Story

The four BIBLE dimensions describe what we are seeking to understand. The research progression of Reach, Engagement, Formation, and Outcomes describes how we observe that story developing over time.

The goal is not to reduce Christian formation to a formula, but to develop better ways of observing, understanding, and supporting the patterns through which formation occurs.
Across the Ecosystem

One Framework, Different Ministry Contexts

The relative importance of each BIBLE dimension varies by ministry. Online Bible Institute naturally provides particularly strong learning data. Christian Practices provides rich behavioral and engagement information. Church Encourager offers insight into pathway participation, community engagement, ministry development, and church flourishing.

Other portals contribute their own perspectives. Together, they can form a broader ecosystem picture without requiring every ministry to measure formation in exactly the same way.
